BAJKOV, Iris Edith Lily (nee Gilhen) Iris sadly passed away at the Nanaimo
Palliative Care Centre on Monday, May 21st, following a brief and courageous
battle with cancer. She was born on October 18th, 1928, in Halifax, Nova
Scotia to the late Lily and Ernest Gilhen. She graduated from Mount Saint
Vincent in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On January 9, 1953, she was united in
marriage to Alexander Bajkov at HMCS Naden, Esquimalt, British Columbia. Her
favourite hobbies included bridge, fishing, bowling, traveling and touring,
watching curling and figure skating. Most important of all, Iris was a
loving wife and a devoted mother to her six children. As a `Navy' spouse she
enjoyed life's journeys while stationed with Alex and her children in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Portsmouth, England and Victoria, British Columbia.
Iris is survived by her husband, Alex, her sons and their wives, Alan and
Alena (Vancouver); Philip and Carol (Prince George); Ian and Christine
(Nanaimo); Andrew and Teri-Lynn (Surrey); along with her daughters and their
husbands, Sandra and Ian (Victoria); and Joan and Gordon (Sooke); Iris was
also blessed with twelve surviving grandchildren: Jason and Jacob (sons of
Sandra Bajkov); Matthew and Lara (son and daughter of Philip and Carol
Bajkov); Marcel, Estelle and Tanya (son and daughters of Joan Cunliffe);
Kyle, Ryan, (Nancy) and Patrick (sons of Ian and Christine Bajkov); Natalie
and Emily (daughters of Andrew and Teri-Lynn Bajkov). She is further
survived by her sister Eileen residing in Duncan. In addition to her
parents, she was predeceased by her brother Cyril Gilhen and sister Joan
Jones. She is also survived by many other relatives and many friends. A
celebration of Iris's life will take place in Nanoose Bay. We would like to
thank all of the staff at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Centre for their help

BEISE, Wanda Mae (nee Willis) Born on May 9, 1932, died peacefully on May
25, 2007. Her husband Don, children Jim (Megan) and Janet, sister June,
grandchildren Nolan, Riley, Shawna, Scott and Adrienne, and her many
friends, will miss her very much. Wanda was a pragmatic, honest, strong and
courageous woman with a sense of humour that carried her and those around
her through many challenges. She was steadfast in her support and love for
her family, cared deeply and diligently for her pets and garden, and was
exemplary in her reverence for life and her acceptance of death as a part of
living. An informal celebration of Wanda's life will be held on June 3, 2007
from 10 am to 2 pm at 4890 West Saanich Road. 373892

BOWKER, Don Don was born in Stockport, Cheshire, England on June 27, 1928
and died in his sleep in Victoria, British Columbia on May 26, 2007. He will
be lovingly remembered by his family as a husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. Many thanks to the Central Care Home staff for their care

BOYLE, Jean Baptiste (George) On Friday, 25 May 2007, Jean passed away
peacefully from prolonged complications of pneumonia. He will be sorely
missed by his beloved wife, Alexandra, his children Keith, Carol and Neil,
daughters-in-law Patricia and Margaret, grandchildren Colin, Iain, Sarah and
Heather, grand-daughter-in-law Kip, great granddaughter Naelle, and his many
brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Jean left the Saskatchewan flatlands
where he grew up to join the navy in WWII and then spent 35 years in the
RCAF and Canadian Armed Forces. He was a man who could build and fix almost
anything and frequently did so for his family and friends. When he retired
in Victoria, he and Alexandra built the house where he lived the rest of his
life. One of his joys in life was ballroom dancing with Alexandra at the
RCAF 800 Wing, after which they graduated to Scottish Country dancing. He
was a gardener, a keen fisherman, and made excellent Bavarian Pilsner, which
he generously shared. The family would like to thank Dr. Ian Waters and the
staff of the respiratory unit and the physicians and staff of the ICU at the
Royal Jubilee Hospital for their excellent care of Jean over the last
difficult seven weeks of his life. There will be a memorial reception in his
favourite garden at his son and daughter-in-law's home at 1843 Crescent
Road, Victoria on Sunday, 3 June, 2007 from 2 PM to 4 PM. In lieu of
flowers, a donation to your favourite charity in his name would be

CLARK, Donald Stuart Donnie will be forever lovingly remembered by his wife
Pattie, children Roy (Tara) and precious grandson Ryan, Jennie (Robin),
Jimmy (Lana) and many other family and friends. Predeceased by his parents
George and Jean Clark of the pioneer Clark Family of Shirley. Donnie was
born October 6th, 1949 in Victoria and raised in Sooke. Donnie "pitched
ball" in various softball leagues and after moving into "town" continued his
love of sports especially hockey as a player, coach and avid fan. Donnie
left his mark on every light station on the coast, retiring from the
Canadian Coast Guard after serving 37 years where he proudly worked in the
Blacksmith Shop with "MY GUYS" as well as many crews and coworkers. Donnie's
spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of all he touched as a kind,
generous and hard working man who loved life, family and friends. He was a
man of great courage, integrity and loyalty to all he held close, always
ready with the "Donnie look" and crooked grin to offer his quick wit, kind
word and encouragement. Funeral service will be held at McCall Bros., 1400

CORBIN, Harold "HK" On May 25, 2007, in Victoria, B.C. Born May 23, 1940 in
Victoria. Lovingly remembered by his daughters: Connie (Gary) Kirkham, and
Chrystyne (Dan) Virtanen; sister, Yvonne (Bob) Peterson; and grandchildren:
Dakota, Jennifer, Antonio, Jonathan, Ryan, and Aidan; life long friends,
Terry and Jean Higgins, and Linsey and Gary Morden; and extended family
members. Harry was an RN for more than thirty years. As a young man he
proudly served his country in the military and spent many years with the
Victoria Scottish Regiment. He always enjoyed his family and friends. A
celebration of Harold's life will be held on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 11:00

EDGAR, Donna Jean (nee Kennedy) In a room filled with love and with a
peaceful heart Mom took God's hand and let go of ours on May 27, 2007. Donna
has left her husband and soulmate Ellison, daughters, Jeanne, Randell (Don),
Kathy Coombs (Brad), and Patti Lorentz (Daryl), grandchildren Patrick
Randell (Carmen), Nicolas, Daniel and Jacqueline Lorentz, and great
granddaughter Arianna Randell, to celebrate her life, remember and love her
forever. Donna will be sadly missed by all her wonderful and cherished
family and friends. Special thanks go out to Carmel MacDonald and all of the
Home Nursing Staff, PRT, and Home support workers that took special care of

GARLAND, Kenneth Sr. (Ken) Ken Sr. passed away peacefully on May 27th, 2007
at Luther Court in Victoria. Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on October 7th,
1911. Precedeased by his wife of 57 years Mary, he is loving remembered by
son Ken Jr. (Sharon), daughter Rosemary (Terry) Brown, 4 grandchildren and 6
great grandchildren. Ken was a long-time Royal Arch Mason and Founder of the
Central Saanich Senior Citizens. A service of remembrance will be held at
Luther Court, 1525 Cedar Hill X Rd. on Thursday, May 31st at 2pm. 373915

HARRIS, Susan Wendy (nee Wight) Born June 29, 1947 in Victoria, passed
peacefully away on May 27, 2007 to be reunited at last with her beloved
John, mom and dad Audrey and Frank and brother Steven. She leaves her sons
Russell (Diana) and Ryan, granddaughter Katie and sister Judi, inlaws Gladys
and Jim Coffey and Donna (Joe) Hawksworth, also nieces Lori and Teri and the
boys Shea, Sheldon and Lucus. Her life was enriched by many special friends
who meant so much to her, the family would like to thank them for all their
love and support. A memorial service will be held at First Memorial on
Falaise Cresent, on Thursday, May 31st at 2pm. Donations may be made to the

HORTON, Winnifred Grace August 2, 1925 May 25, 2007 Winnifred Horton (nee
Hearn) was born in Edmonton and grew up in Genesee, Alberta, where her
family had a farm by the North Saskatchewan River. Winnifred, along with her
older brother and sister, rode four miles to school every day on horseback.
She often recalled the many happy hours spent with her cousins by the river
swimming, skating and fishing. Winnifred, with her parents and brother Walt,
moved to Cobble Hill in 1945. Her parents bought the store in Cobble Hill,
which they named Hearn's Meat Market and Groceteria, the current Cobble Hill
Market and she and her brother helped her parents in the store. One day Les
Horton asked a friend to introduce him to that pretty girl playing
badminton" in the Cobble Hill Hall. They were married at St. John's Cobble
Hill on February 15, 1947 and celebrated their 60th anniversary this
February. Win and Les worked on their farm in Cobble Hill growing hay and
raising beef cattle. Win enjoyed gardening and took pride in producing home
grown meals. Guests were often invited for dinner or a pie was sent home
with a visitor. Winnifred was well known for her baking and won many prizes
for her pies and bread at the Cobble Hill Fair. Win was a parishioner of St.
John's Cobble Hill since 1947 and was an Altar Guild member. She enjoyed her
involvement with the Mothers' Union and made many meaningful connections
with members in South Africa, Ireland, England and the Solomon Islands.
Win's family was a very important part of her life and she will be deeply
missed by her loving husband, Les; children: Barbara (Lindsay) Prescott,
Margaret (Ray) Belot, Ken (Sheelagh), Carolyn (Jeremy) Webb; grandchildren:
Erin Prescott (Darrin Charmley), Ryan Prescott, Charlotte Belot, Gerome Webb
and Olin Webb; her sister-in-law, Leona Hearn, nieces and nephews, and many
cousins in the Edmonton area. A funeral service will be held on Thursday,
May 31 at 11:00 am at St. John's Anglican Church, Cobble Hill. Donations in
her memory can be made to St. John's Anglican Church, 3295 Cobble Hill Road,

JOHNSON, Margaret Rose Passed away peacefully at home on May 26th, 2007,
with her loving daughters by her side after a courageous fight against
cancer. Predeceased by her husband, soulmate, and best friend Al, August
22nd, 2006. Marg was born January 30, 1940 in Edmonton, Alberta, and then
later moved to B.C., where she met Al, whom she later married. Together they
had two beautiful daughters, that were the love of their lives. Survived by
her daughters: Donna Lee Brunskill, Debbie (Rob) DeKelver and her grandson
Cory. Marg who always put her family first, was a dedicated homemaker,
business owner and an active community participant with Al. She touched many
friends and neighbors with her kindness and huge heart. The "Hostess with
the Mostess", she lived by the golden rule, "always have a napkin under your
drink". We will lovingly remember her as being loving, gracious and
considerate all her life, she epitomized the word courage, in how she dealt
with all that brought her, good and bad. Anyone wishing to pass on memories

MACKAY, William Stuart After a long and brave battle, Bill passed away on
May 24th, 2007 at Victoria General Hospital. His spirit, humour, kindness
and love of family will be fondly remembered by all. Bill was predeceased by
his parents, his brothers John and Donald, and his sister Helen. He is
survived by his beloved wife May, son Calvin (Anne), daughter Lisa (Rush),
grandchildren Ross, Sara, Martene and Alena; his stepsons Brett (Teresa,
Stefania and Jessica) and Derrick (Marlee); his first wife Dianne Valerie
Benn, and nephews and nieces. Bill was born in Victoria on September 20,
1935. Before graduating from Victoria High School he began his working
career with the CPR steamships, performing various duties from the passenger
decks to the boiler room. His professional career with the provincial
government began in the mapping department, flying around the province
taking aerial photos. He had a passion for aviation and took flying lessons
later in life. As a land surveyor he walked every inch of the province and
often recounted memorable events of mountain climbing, adventuresome float
plane landings, inclement weather, the solitude and the remoteness. As the
Director of Planning for the Regional District of Nanaimo, and the first
Planner for the City of Nanaimo, his vision and sense of community
contributed to Nanaimo's growth and prosperity. Bill entered into the second
stage of his career as the Director of Communication for the Ministry of
Solicitor General and retired in 1997, as the Director of Boards,
Commissions and Agencies. In his younger years, he was a member of the
infamous James Bay Rugby team. He loved most sports but in particular
football, tennis, horseracing, basketball and golf. As an avid reader, he
was a news junky with a thirst for knowledge. He was a gourmet cook and
cherished good conversation around the dinner table. His self-proclaimed
shyness, irreverent sense of humour, warmth, intelligence and charm will be
fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched. The family would like to
extend many thanks to Dr. Orrom, Dr. Skinnider, the team of specialists, the
nurses and staff at VGH for their professionalism, kindness and support that
comforted him throughout his illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at
the Nanaimo Yacht Club, (some parking behind the facility), Friday, June

PABITO, Tita September 23, 1963 May 18, 2007 It is with great sorrow that we
announce the sudden passing away of Tita Pabito. She is survived by her
family in the Philippines, her husband, Hermogenes Pabito, her children,
Edmund Herbert and Ethel Herna, her mother, Hermogena Cahatol, and her
sister, Victoria Cahatol; and her family in Victoria in Couples For Christ,

WILKINSON, Elaine Clara-Violet Born in Carmen, Manitoba on June 12, 1935 and
passed away on May 25, 2007 in Victoria, BC. Elaine touched so many and was
a loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, G.G., Aunt, Teacher (Tillicum), and
friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love was
unconditional and was felt by all. Predeceased by her first husband, Daniel
Pack and their son, Trevor Pack in 1961, husband, Tom Wilkinson, and their
daughter, Marney Cole in 2006. Survived by her children, Tom Wilkinson
(Joanne), Dwain Pack (Joan), Brenda Dye (Jack), Randy Wilkinson (Dianne),
Lloyd Pack (Pamela) and Heather Banzet (Gino). Also survived by her sister
Sherrill (Jim), 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Thank you so much
