BISSENDEN, Mabel Kathleen (nee Hoffman) May 16, 1911 January 31, 2008 Mabel
passed away quietly at Central Care Home in Victoria in her 97th year. She
was born in Borden, Saskatchewan and was a longtime resident of Victoria.
Mabel was predeceased by siblings Clara, Lilla, Charlie and Harry, husband
Ted and is survived by her loving son, George and grandchildren Risa and
Aidan of Salmon Arm. Mabel loved golf, curling, cribbage and boardgames. She
was one of the original "Little Old Ladies" well known for sponsorship and
support of Victoria Shamrocks Lacrosse. Mabel worked for years at a local
Oak Bay pharmacy and Island Medical Laboratory. She owned and operated Twin
Cedars Tourist Apartments in Oak Bay for over 26 years. Special thanks to
her niece Joan Evans and husband Keith for their years of support and the
CCH staff. Service Thursday, February 7, 2pm at First Memorial, 1155 Fort
Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your

BOND, Douglas (Doug) Born in Hudson's Bay Junction, SK, on May 9, 1941, Doug
left us suddenly on January 31, 2008. He is survived by his wife Jane, sons
Maurice (Katrin) and Michael, and dear grandchildren Kelina and Sacha; also
his brother Al (Dorothy) and nieces Nancy and Nicky. A gathering to
celebrate and remember Doug's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday,
February 7, at the Canadian Forces Sailing Association Clubhouse, 1001
Maplebank Road, Victoria. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and

COCHRANE, G. Fern June 26 1916 January 30 2008 Fern passed away peacefully
in Victoria B.C. Predeceased by husband Riley and brother Earl Fridell.
Dearly remembered and missed by daughters Caren Cochrane and Lyn (Ken)
Coldwell and grandchildren Andrea and Lucas. Fern resided in Kimberley,
Nelson and Victoria. She enjoyed her church, garden, cats and especially her
grandchildren. Thank you for 4th floor staff at James Bay Lodge for her

COTTON, Harvey John Born in Winnipeg April 27, 1933, passed away at home
January 30, 2008. Predeceased by wife Shirley in August 2007. John leaves
behind sisters Audrey (Norman) Breedon of Nanaimo, Hilda (Tom) Stanley of
Winnipeg, sons Lyle (Anita), Stephen (Margaret-Ann), daughters Christine
(Kim) Egginton, Shelley (Max), grandchildren Vincent, Vanessa, Brian, Sara,
Karlie and Kristina. John was a kind, honest, hard working man who enjoyed
life and family to the fullest. Special thanks to the residents of Ocean
Villa for their kindness and support of Dad. John will be remembered at a
private family service at a later date. Donations may be made in John's
memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC. You're not forgotten,
father, dear Nor ever shall you be; As long as life and memory last I shall

GRAHAM, Greta Pauline (nee Arctander) Greta passed away with grace on
Friday, February 1, 2008 at the age of 70. Her enthusiasm and passion for
life inspired us all. She will be deeply missed by her husband John,
children David (Shelley), daughter Cheryl (Ove), grandchildren Maya, Heather
and David, brothers Philip (Elaine, Erin & David & Sean, Kyle), Eric (Doug),
and Chris (Lynne, Kari and Kimberley), sisters Alice (Eric, Judy, Terry,
Ingrid, Sheila, Colleen), and Shirley (Wolfgang and Angela), sister-in-law
Frances, and many friends, especially Catherine. Predeceased by her father,
Christian Arctander (1971), her beloved mother Dorothy Arctander (2004), and
her sister-in-law Lillian (2007). Greta's energy knew no bounds. She and
John created a peaceful haven at their home, and eagerly welcomed guests to
Cedar Lane Bed & Breakfast on Saltspring Island. She treasured music and
dance and embraced all things in nature and the outdoors especially her deck
garden and the beauty of the Rockies and Purcell Mountains. She loved to run
and formed lifelong friendships with her `running ladies' and with her
friends and neighbours on Saltspring. Forever young at heart, Greta never
stopped learning and faced her challenges with strength and a smile. May
your new journey be blessed with joy and abundance and the bright spirit you
gave us. We will celebrate Greta on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at The Harbour
House in Ganges on Saltspring Island with a casual gathering at 2:00 to 4:00

HARRIS, Joseph Frederick In Loving Memory Joseph was born December 11, 1929
in Vancouver, BC and left us on January 30, 2008 in Kamloops BC. Joseph was
predeceased by his wife Marilyn Anne in November 2007 and his daughter
Barbara Joan in 1956. He is survived by his son Robert David (Ada),
daughters Patricia Ann and Heather Lynn, granddaughters Nesta Elizabeth,
Melissa Anne and Andria Therese, great granddaughter Brittany, as well as
nieces and nephews. Joseph will be greatly missed and forever loved by his
family and friends. At Joseph's request there will be no formal service. The
family requests that any expressions of sympathy take the form of donations

KIRKMAN, Audrey Audrey, passed away peacefully at home in her big comfy
chair, with her beloved husband and daughters at her side at 7:30pm on
Friday, February 1st, finally succumbing to the cancer she had battled for
over five months. Her friends and family will miss Audrey's humor, kindness
and strength. She leaves behind her loving husband Fred, her three
daughters, Sheila, Carollyne and Trish, her grandchildren Erin and Eric and
their partners Chad and Vivian, her great granddaughter Dakota Rose, her
sons-inlaw Bob and Chris, her sister Norma and nephews Roy and Brian. A
Celebration of her live will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services,
4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria at 2:00pm, Friday, February 8th, 2008. In lieu
of flowers those who wish could send a donation to Victoria Hospice or the
BC Cancer Society. Our thanks to all the health care workers who were

MacDONALD, Ken Ken of Victoria B.C. (formerly of Toronto) passed away on
February 4, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is remembered by
his loving wife, Vicki Davidoff; adoring children, Jesse and Danielle (Jim);
mother, Florence; brother, Jim (Judy); loving extended family, Joanne
(James), Hayley, Adam (Vered) and many friends. Loving and devoted
grandfather to Owen and Liam. Predeceased by Karol Steinhouse. After a very
successful consulting career Ken returned to his true passion, working with
his hands in the wonderful B.C. outdoors. Funeral service will be held at
McCall Bros Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Streets, Victoria, B.C. on
Thursday, February 7th at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers and as expressions of

SAMSON, Douglas Elliott 1922 2008 Passed away suddenly at Royal Jubilee
Hospital in Victoria, BC on Thursday, January 31, 2008, in his 86th year.
Douglas spent his time between his home in Ottawa and Victoria. He served in
the Second World War and retired from the Navy as a Commander in 1973.
Predeceased by his wife Else in 1988, his parents Ethel and Edgar Samson,
brother Gordon and sister-in-law Joy Locke. Survived by brother Donald
(Betty Anne) of Waterloo, brothers-in-law Jack Locke of Vancouver, Bud Moxon
(Pauline) of Halifax, and six nieces and nephews. Sadly missed by Audrey
Thurber of Victoria, loving companion and friend, her children and spouses,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following his years in the Navy,
Douglas was a consultant to the Department of Supply and Services, P.S. Ross
and Partners, Intercon Consultants, Officer in Charge of the Naval
Benevolent Fund, Auditor for the Royal Canadian Legion at Bell's Corner.
Following Doug's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Burial will
be in the Beechwood Cemetery, the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian
Forces in Ottawa. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the

SINCLAIR, Irene Mildred (nee Nichol) January 11, 1926 February 3, 2008 Irene
Sinclair passed away peacefully at her home on February 3, 2008 after a
lengthy illness. She is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her nieces,
nephews, cousins and many close friends. Irene was born in Mont Nebo,
Saskatchewan, the youngest of six siblings. Irene spent a brief time in the
Armed Forces after finishing high school. She then entered the Edmonton
General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1949. She moved to
Orillia, Ontario to nurse and that is where she met and married Tim Sinclair
in 1955. Shortly after they were married, Irene and Tim moved to Victoria
where Irene nursed for many years and where she and Tim owned and operated a
flower shop for a number of years. They were very active in the
Barbershoppers in Victoria and had many wonderful trips around North America
through their association with the group. After her retirement from nursing
in 1986, Irene had more time to pursue her passion for gardening, playing
bridge, reading and traveling. She was predeceased by Tim in 1995. Irene
will be remembered for the compassion and caring she showed to everyone she
came in contact with and for her great sense of humor. She was loved by all
who knew her. The family wishes to thank the caregivers from Eldersafe and
Hospice who cared for her. Memorial service will be held at First Memorial,
1155 Fort Street on February 6 at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire, the family
requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of their choice in

SPARLING, Paul George At the age of 84, Paul passed away peacefully January
29, 2008 with family by his side. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years
Iona, nine children, fifteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren,
three sisters, one brother, nieces, nephews, many loved ones and friends. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saanich Peninsula Hospital
Foundation, Palliative Care Unit. Celebration of Paul's life and ash
interment will be held February 9, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church Hall and

TANGYE, Eroca aka Marion Robin Armstrong May 1, 1930 January 12, 2008 Born
Birkenhead, England. Her partner Herbert Westgate, sadly passed away January
21, 2008. Our beautiful mother will forever be loved and missed by children
Tony, Mark (Pam), Philip, Bernadette and Jennifer, her granddaughters, and
Emily Westgate. Predeceased by first husband Peter 1964. Mom loved her
bridge club, travel, books, music. Thank you to staff and volunteers at

TAYLOR, Bruce Payton Tainsh Born in Vancouver in 1926, Bruce passed away
suddenly of complications from ALS on January 28, 2008 in Courtenay. Bruce
moved to Victoria in 1952 and worked for Pacific Coast Wholesale Drugs until
1969 when he moved to Campbell River. He was an avid golfer and spent many
hours at Cedar Hill Golf Course. He was predeceased by his second wife,
Leona in 2003. His children, Julie Spooner of Comox and Jill (Harold)
Schroeder of Surrey, and step children, Greg Barnes of Victoria and Maureen
(Rick) Draffin of Ottawa will miss him greatly. Bruce will be remembered by
his extended family and many friends. A family gathering is planned for a

WHYTE, Pamela Dawn Passed away peacefully on Friday, February 01, 2008 after
a three year fight with cancer. Predeceased by her father John Ingram and
mother Florence. Survived by her loving husband Laurence (Larry); brother
