BAUER, Robert William Robert Bauer passed away at Fir Cottage, The Priory,
on August 8, as a result of dementia. He was born October 31, 1925, near
Veteran, Alberta. The family moved to Mannville area, 1934, and farmed in
Clovelly district. Robert was skilled at anything mechanical, a very hard
worker who expected no less from his family or employees. Robert, Ruby and
their family moved to Victoria in 1974. He joined Realspan Properties, later
Colliers International, where he was maintenance supervisor for thirteen
years. He loved his seaview home and gardens, especially the roses he used
to raise. He fed coons and deer, much to the disgust of his neighbours. He
hooked rugs for all his grandchildren, and fished when it was still fun.
Upon retirement in 1991 he and Ruby drove to Alaska, eastern Canada and US
for several years before dementia overtook him. His final years were spent
at Fir Collage, where he had excellent care. He retained his ready witt to
the end. He leaves behind Ruby, his loving wife of fifty seven years, son
Chris (Sharon); Gloria Abbott and Deana Rombough (John); seven grandchildren
and two step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren, brothers Oswald of
Vermilion and Alvin of Sooke. He was predeceased by brother Reinhold and
granddaughter Meghan. Special thanks to the staff at The Priory and Fir
Cottage for their excellent and supportive care of Robert. A Memorial
Service to celebrate Robert's Life will be held at First Memorial Funeral
Services, 4725 Falaise Drive on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 2:00 pm. In
lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's name to the Diabetes Association or
the Priory would be appreciated. 491054

BEATTY, Kathleen Isabel (nee Palmer) August 27, 1958 August 13, 2008 It is
with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother,
daughter, sister and friend, Kathleen Isabel Beatty, who died peacefully in
her home on August 13, 2008. She was a cherished wife, loving companion and
soul mate to her husband Robert, a devoted and loving mother to her children
Aaron (Gabriela), Candice (Robbie), Nolan, Jennifer and Ryan (Deena) and
Grandmother to her beloved Sophie and Griffin. Kathleen was born on August
27, 1958 in Vancouver BC to Alex and Evelyn Palmer, the 2nd of 5 children:
Laurie, Alex, Joan and Dan. Kathleen grew up in North Vancouver and moved to
Vancouver Island in 1988. A loyal employee of BC Ferries for over 22 years,
she started at Horseshoe Bay then worked in Swartz Bay and other smaller
terminals on the island. She also provided volunteer services for her union,
assisted with employee Christmas parties and was always ready to fill-in
wherever there was a need. She touched the lives of so many people through
extensive volunteer work in her community, helping the homeless and
organizing many large events which provided significant fundraising for the
Children's Hospital in Victoria. She never let a Christmas go by where she
did not give assistance to families in need. She loved to entertain in her
home and touched many lives through her acts of compassion and caring.
Kathleen cherished the time she spent at the lake with her family and
friends, boating, water skiing, tubing and her favorite: floating on her air
mattress with her husband Bob, enjoying the sunshine. Kathleen will be so
dearly missed as she was taken from us too soon, a more wonderful, giving
human being cannot be found. She leaves behind many friends and extended
family members in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Europe. Kathleen
now rests peacefully with her beloved Grandmother (Granny), Isabella Palmer.
The memorial service for family and friends will be held at First Memorial
Funeral Services on Thursday, August 21st at 2:00 pm, 4725 Falaise Dr.,
Victoria, BC, with the reception to follow. 492705
