BAILEY, Lawrence Irvine July 20, 1923 September 6, 2008 Larry left us
suddenly on September 6, 2008 leaving a huge hole in the lives of those who
knew and loved him. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 60 years, Iona, his
daughter-in-law, Suzanne, and grandchildren Katherine and Tyson. His only
son, Rick, predeceased him in 2007. Larry proudly served his country in the
Merchant Marines and, following his discharge, moved to Ocean Falls, B.C
where he spent his working life as an electrician. He turned the lights off
in the town after it's final closure in 1985, and reluctantly moved to
Victoria. Larry loved Ocean Falls; his work, fishing each weekend with Iona
by his side, ten pin bowling, and enjoying the company of friends who, even
though now scattered across the country keep in contact through regular
reunions and letters. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, hard
working man liked and respected by all. A life well lived. Sadly missed. No
service by request. Final resting place Dunks Bay, Tobermory, Ontario.

BORSHOLT, Allan Roy May 16, 1933 September 8, 2008 It is with profound
sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a very much loved husband,
dad, and papa, Allan Roy Borsholt. He will be greatly missed by his wife of
54 years Beverley, his two sons Brent (Judy), Mark, daughter Lisa and
adoring grandchildren Michael and Sean, as well as sister Helen (Doug).
Predeceased by parents Olaf and Carla and sister Norma (Bill). Roy was born
in Vancouver and spent most of his youth in Caulfield Cove West Vancouver.
There he learned and loved to sail and fish. In 1950 Roy joined the Canadian
Armed Forces and was shipped to the Korean conflict and was honourably
discharged in 1954. After arriving back home, he went to work for his father
at Borsholt Furniture. Soon after on a blind date he met the love of his
life and future bride Bev. After marring and settling down in North
Vancouver they expanded the Borsholt brood. With sailing and fishing aside,
Roy and Bev's new hobbies included watching and supporting their sons play
hockey and lacrosse and proudly watched his daughter climb the world
sporting scene of International and Olympic swimming. In 1990 Roy & Bev
retired to their lovely home on the hill in Oak Bay Victoria. With Dad not
being the type to sit and smell the coffee", he now threw himself into real
estate holdings and property management with Borsholt Equities. He also
became extremely active in the Korea Veterans Association locally and
nationally where he fostered many new friendships with his brothers in arms.
Roy and Bev also found time in their busy retired schedule to join and enjoy
RVing up and down the Island with a local RV club. With Dad's sudden and
unexpected passing he would be the first to say, I can't go just yet, I've
got too much still to do". Dad's love, friendship, passion for life, his
strength, honour and courage will not only be missed by his family but by
all of his KVA comrades, business associates he had met or had the pleasure
to have been a part of his and their lives over the years. A memorial
service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive,
Saanich, September 16, Tuesday at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation
made in Roy's name may be forwarded to his Victoria KVA Unit #27. This will
then be forwarded to support the currently returning Canadian Veterans from
Afganistan. KVA of Canada Inc., Unit #27, Box 44182, 2947 Tillicum Rd.,
Victoria, V9A 7K1. 498983

FOSTER, Dorothy Anne On 11 September 2008 at home in Victoria, in her 94th
year. Dorothy was born in Lethbridge on 22 July 1915, the first child of
Annie and Willy Russ. She went to high school in Grande Prairie, received
her RN from the University of Alberta in 1939 and married RCMP Constable
Alan Foster in 1940. As an RCMP wife in one man" detachments she was in fact
an unpaid member of the Force, but their service was interrupted when Alan
enlisted in the Army. Her only sibling, Pilot Office Hamar Russ, was killed
overseas in 1942. After the war Dorothy or Russy, as she was known to family
and Alan resumed their RCMP service. Their only child, Hamar, was born while
they were stationed at Fort Vermillion in 1948. Transferred to BC in the
early 1950s, they eventually settled on Landsend Road in North Saanich. They
lived there together from 1959 until Alan's death in 1986. Dorothy stayed on
until 1993, when she moved into her beloved Somerset House. Dorothy was
active in school and community organizations when she was younger, and she
and her family enjoyed years of camping and boating. She loved the ocean,
music, poetry, books and in her later years visits to the casino (followed
by chicken wings and wine) with Laverne. The Foster home at Landsend was
action central" for many of their large extended family and especially the
Ascot crowd" (Ruth, Jeannie, Maureen, David, Mary Lou, Barbara and Jaymes).
Aunty Russy and Uncle Alan" enjoyed their nieces and nephews immensely and
everyone has happy memories of those golden summers between 1959 and the
early 1970s. Dorothy is survived by loving family including her son Hamar
(Katherine), granddaughters Cayce and Rachel, and many nieces, nephews and
friends. We are especially grateful to the wonderful staff at Somerset House
for making her 15 years there such happy ones, and to the Home and Community
Care nurses and Victoria Hospice Society for their help and support at the
end. We also wish to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to her
caregivers over the years, including Jopi Verveer, the late Susan Wilson,
Ruth McAllister, Amanda Bilinsky, Cory Archer and Laverne Soohochoff. We are
especially thankful to Cory and to Dorothy's dear friend Laverne, who did so
much for her in the last weeks of her life. They made it possible for her to
die in her own home, attended by those she loved and who loved her. A
memorial service and reception will be held at Somerset House, 540 Dallas
Road, at 1 p.m. on 27 September. In lieu of flowers, donations to Victoria
Hospice or the charity of your choice would be welcomed. 499524
