Hello All:
I am new to the list and am researching the surnames ELLIS & KILLAM. My
g-grandmother was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. Her name was CLARISSA
KILLAM b. abt. 1870. She later changed her first name to Clara but I don't
know if she changed it while she was still in Canada or when she came to the
U.S. I am told that her father was a farmer and after he died her mother
re-married, he was also a farmer. She had approximately 13 brothers and
sisters and her step-father also brought children into the marriage.
She married THOMAS ELLIS. The only thing I know about him is that he served
in the Boer War and was wounded. They had one child, my grandmother, Edna
Mae b. 1904. Thomas and Clara divorced and she moved to America with her
daughter. As far as I know she never saw Thomas or her family again.
Through family stories I have come to believe she was the "black sheep".
This wasn't the first time she left her family.
If anyone has information regarding ELLIS or KILLAM from Moncton it would be
greatly appreciated. I am also looking for anything I can find on
enlistments at the time of the Boer Wars.
Thank you,
Angela
