Hello,
I am new to the list and would be grateful for any information regarding my ancestors.
My great grandfather George PICKSTOCK, born 25th July 1845 in Davenham, Cheshire, died 31st May, 1915 in Liverpool. His father was Samuel PICKSTOCK, born Witton, Cheshire about 1821,died about 1892 his mother was Mary BODEN, born Davenham, Cheshire, they married 1825 in Cheshire.
From Georges marriage registration to Alice Ann PLUMB, both George and Samuel are described as flatmen/watermen. However, the headstone in Anfield Cemetery refers to George as "Captain".
George had at least one brother John Bowden PICKSTOCK who it is thought became a clergyman and artist, he died in Brixham. I understand that George had other brothers, who worked on the canals, he may also have had sisters who may have married watermen.
Among the boats he owned and are mentioned in George PICKSTOCKS will are the sailing flat "LIVONIA", flats, PILOT, PIRO, PLUTO and POLAR his sons were charged with continuing the business. I can find no evidence that he traded under the family name neither can I find any pictures of the family boats.I have approached Ellesmere Port Archives and Gloucester Boat Museum without success.
Any information, photographs, advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
Cherie
