In light of the address it is probable that if Fred owned a boat it
would have been on the
Birmingham canal Navigation (BCN)
The national Waterways museum keep the gauging records including this
era on a database.
If you e mail them they will check their records to see if any boats
were 'registered' to Butlers. It will be worth checking the family as some
times the boats were gauged on behalf of wife and other family members
