Hi Nick,
I've got ancestors in the Burscough district (approx 40 miles from Chester) working the Leeds Liverpool canal late 1700's to mid 1800's but am not aware of any links with Chester (not yet that is!)

I'll dig out some iinformation and drop you a line over the weekend.

Regards
Barry Lowe

Hi everyone
As a new member I am trying to catch up with the list. I have
barge-maker and flattman ancestors in Chester at and slightly before the
turn of the 1800's by the name of LOWE. Does anyone have any experience
of bargemen in this area?
Best wishes
Nick Shelley
