Yes, you are quite right I should have given some more info on the person.
All I was told this evening was, Albert born c 1876, area unknown. The age
calculated from the age given when Albert married in 1906 age 30. He married in
Christ Church, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. No father given. So presumption
is, Albert could be illegitimate. (Mind you father could have been dead.)
(I have not seen the Church entry as yet.)

(I have not looked through my many notes on canal people for the Knowles
name, It is not a name I think I have come across through my researches in the
North Staffs & South Staffs areas.)

Personally searching for the following names, mainly on the Trent & Mersey.
(Some spilt onto the Grand Union & Shrops Union)

WOOD - COLCLOUGH - NIXON - SLATER - WILKES & the double barrelled name of
SLATER-NIXON
