' In fact a more accurate term for the job some of them did would be horse
marine because my grandad would walk with the horse for 16 hours a day '
oh dear oh dear. After upsetting some by simply stating the obvious we now
have this. Really then, if he, and my father, walked the horse then they are
really stable boys, except, our horses never had the luxury of a stable, they
went in a field when being rested. As for 'marine', are inland man made
waterways classed as 'marine', I thought this was tidal waters and beyond.
Anyway, having put the thread of what he was called to my father he offered
up another descriptive noun, he states that anyone who owned the boats, as he
and his father did, were called 'Steerers and Master Steerers'.
So, from the horses mouth, or at least the guy who walked the horse.
pip pip. BN (Ben).
