Hello,

On the 1851 census Joseph Arrowsmith, Wheat Leesons Lane, Parish of Preston
on Wildmoors (which I assume is Preston upon the Weald Moors), is a boatman
and two sons aged 12 and 13 were boat boys.

1861 census Joseph Arrowsmith of Horton Lane Horton is a canal boatman.

1861 census Richard Arrowsmith of Cottage by Toll Gate, Leegomery, Parish of
Wellington is boatman coal department.
1871 census Richard Arrowsmith as above now labourer ironworks
1881 census Richard Arrowsmith Bellfields Cottage Brewood, Staffordshire is
labourer at reservoir, 1891 reservoir keeper, 1901 Water Bailiff.

I assume that the canals were not the large canals but small canals,
possibly providing coal to the iron works.
Is it possible to get more information on the minor canals?

Could someone direct me to a map that shows the reservoir where Richard
Arrowsmith may have been employed?

Thanking you.

Janet
