Hi
Doing a quick scan of Bean's 1867 Nevada County
History write ups on mines, but could not find
anything about an O'CONNOR Mine in any area of the
county.
Next tried TOPZONE, URL:
<http://www.topozone.com/states/California.asp?>
I input Nevada county as locale and "mine" as type and
could not find an O'CONNOR descriptor of anything.
Could be works were relatively small, although other
mines with relatively small crews as described in
Bean's are listed in Topozone.
Dan Collins, the sup't of the O'Connor Mine, lived in
Union Hill. This community is in the Topozone Nevada
county list. If you select it, then click on the
"Large" button on the sidebar to enlarge the map,
you'll see there are not only some "named" mines, but
also some inactive, unnamed ones south of town.
Assuming Collins lived near where he worked, these
could be logical candidates. Maybe a Union Hill local
has some insights
There are no O'CONNOR's listed in Rough & Ready in
1867 in Bean's directory, but there are some (and
variants) in other venues:
In Bridgeport Twsp
O'CONNOR, John, miner, Birchville
O'CONNOR, M., miner, Cherokee
In Little York Twsp
O'CONNOR, J. C., miner, Brown's Hill
In Bloomfield Twsp
O'CONNOR, Hugh, lumberman, Lake City
In Eureka Twsp
O'CONNOR, Michael, miner, Moore's Flat
In Grass Valley Twsp
O'CONNOR, J. C., no occupaion listed, Spring Hill
O'CONNOR, M. P.,Justice Peace, West Main St
O'CONOR, no name/initial, miner, Union Hill
O'CONOR, T., teamster, Grass valley
No SULLIVAN's in Rough & Ready. Large group in Grass
Valley, a few others in other areas. If you've got
some firsts/initials can take a look to see if there's
a match.
