I'm also posting this to the Orange Co. GenConnect Board, but perhaps
others may be interested? Oliver Linden HALSELL was the son of Wilson
Faulk HALSEL and Susan C. (SWEET) SPURGEON HALSEL. From an unknown
newspaper, 13 Nov 1953:
OLIVER L. HALSELL DIES OF HEART ATTACK TODAY
Oliver L. Halsell of 2424 Oakmont St., Santa Ana, pioneer real estate
investment broker and a native son of Orange County, died early today of
a heart attack. He was 79.
Mr. Halsell was striken with an attack about 5 pm. and was taken to
St. Joseph Hospital where he appeared to be recovering. Death came
about 2 am. when a second attack struck.
He was born in the area south of Santa Ana known as Gospel Swamp, Nov
13, 1874 and remained a resident of the area the rest of his life.
He first entered business as a druggist, but sold out in 1910 to
enter the real estate investment field. He was one of the primary
organizers of the Fairhaven Land and Development Co. and the Santoro
Co., which have extensive real estate holdings throughout the city.
Although he had no children, Mr. Halsell is survived by three cousins
and 15 nephews and nieces, many of whom live in this area. Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. in Smith and Tuthill Chapel with the
Rev. Harry E. Owings officiating. Private interment will follow in
Fairhaven Cemetery.
