Hello Donna,
I searched the CDI from 1905 to 1929 and there is no KING listed with a first name beginning with an R or L that died on April 9, 1905. The statewide death index started in 1905.
I found a Saley KING, age 64, d. 12 Mar 1908, in Tulare Co., CA. No other KING with a first name begining with the letter "S" died on that date. She could have moved up north and was buried in Santa Ana Cemetery next to R.L. King? You can order the DC ($11) at: http://www.co.tulare.ca.us/
Contact the Santa Cemetery by phone or mail and save yourself a lot of searching for the DC.

The 1900 CA Census for Westminster, Orange Co., CA lists Sallie KING and two sons (I could only read one name Richard). She listed herself as head of household could her husband have passed before 1900? I looks like she had two other children from a previous marriage. Visit your local library or FHC and view the page for yourself. Look carefully at the census page you may recognize another family member on the same page, one before, or after. ED 142, Sheet No. 16, Pg. 71A.
A search of the CDI found:
KING, Richard L., age 69
b. 05/16/1886, Texas
d. 20 Sep 1955, Alameda, CA
MLN: RAGLYN
FLN: KING
SS# 545-26-6671
You can order the DC ($11) at:

The 1900 Census for richard lists his birth date as May 1886 and he was born in Texas. Could the above be a son? Maybe you could order his DC and get his fathers first name instead of looking for R.L. King?
The 1920 Census has a Richard King age 36 born in Texas living in Tulare Co. ED 241, Sheet 2A, Pg. 39
Oh, I almost forgot to mention a little known Orange Co. microfilm titled "Death and burial permit master index, 1889-1955". You can view or order film #1290113 from your local FHC.
I find it easier to start with the most recent person born and working backward instead of starting in the middle, but sometimes you don't pick a starting point. Right? You have a challenge with this one but I seems possible to find them.
Good luck,
Charles
