I expect Presbyterian, less likely Lutheran, prior to Methodist establishments. I would like to know where I might be looking for church records for my early (Scot immigrant) John HILL (wife Polly EASTMAN) family that moved to Wallkill late 1750s from Kingston.
The first bunch of kids were Marcy, Caleb, John Jr (my ancestor), Mary, Sarah, and Tilton Eastman HILL. The last two were Johanna and Abial Fry HILL, born at Wallkill.
I found one reference that John Jr married Sarah/Sally COLYER (Colier, Collier, Caljer &c) in the mid 1780s at Goshen. In that case given Sarah's surname it could be DRC.
It seems that later, early 1800s Tioga/Chemung county he then married a Sally THOMAS, and later yet Elizabeth Unknown. The Colyer reference substantiates what my grandmother told me that her g-grandmother's name was. Another son of John Jr stated on 1850 census that *his* mother's name was Sallie THOMAS. Elizabeth unkn is mentioned as separated or divorced living separately at his death.
Two of John Sr's sons, Caleb and Abial were in Deerpark from 1800 census; each later moved on. Tilton stayed at Wallkill probably until his death.
Longwinded, but that's why I need churches to look for references / documentation up to about 1800 by which time John Jr was already at Tioga (later Chemung) County.
