Just jumping in on this one...
The two documents you really need to get from a probate file are the Will
and the Final Account and Decree of Distribution. The Will is nice, but the
Decree will tell you of any changes that may have occurred during the
administration of the estate not covered specifically by the will. You
never know when some family member will come out of the closet! Also, the
Decree will give you updated names of children in the event of marriages of
daughters, etc.
