October is Family History Month, and SCGS has scheduled several activities
to celebrate.
Saturday, October 14, 2006 - Lunch and Learn
Let's Get (A Family Reunion) Together
Lunch 12:00 noon
Sit, chat and share your genealogy stories and questions while you eat
Presentation at 1:00PM
A family reunion gives the genealogist or family historian a perfect
opportunity to step into the spotlight. Whether it's showing off the most
recently discovered tintype or family photo, or displaying a 36-foot-long
descendant tree chart on the wall, a family reunion affords a wonderful
opportunity to nurture a young cousin's budding interest in genealogy.
Reunion attendees are a captive audience for gathering interviews, reviewing
and correcting family group sheets, and filling in the blank branches of the
family tree.
Charlotte Bocage has been officially researching her family since 1977. She
has organized several successful family reunions on her father's side and is
in the beginning stages of the first family reunion on her mother's side for
2007. She has served on the SCGS Board of Directors for the last three
years and volunteers every Wednesday at the library. Charlotte is on the
SGS Jamboree committee and the Education committee.
If your family has held a reunion, please bring along any materials
--newsletters, photo albums, activities, etc. -- that were used. We'd love
to see them, and they will be great examples for others who are thinking of
organizing a reunion.
A special drawing will follow Charlotte's presentation. The winner will
receive a free "Family Tree Shirt" from the SCGS store on CafePress (a $20
value). To see an example of the Family Tree Shirt,
