Recently had the great fortune to have a cousin I had never met (to our
knowledge---maybe when we were children) send me information on my families
from
the "Cape Fear" area.

Archibald McMILLAN/Margaret MURPHY, Peter McARTHUR, Archibald SMITH/Jane
McARTHUR, John McARTHUR/Catherine MURPHY. The best that I remember from the
information given me these people came from Kintyre, Scotland. Perhaps not
SMITH. I was so excited that I still have not taken it all in. They settled in
the Robeson Co. NC area (edge of Hoke Co. or perhaps including part). A
week or
so ago my husband made a quick pass through the area and were treated by a
fellow member of Clan MacARTHUR from Red Springs to a ride to see the
SMITH cemetery where Archibald and Jane are buried and to another one where
some of the other McARTHURS are buried. She and her sons had also sent me
information. Have not had a chance yet to visit the one where McMillans
and Murphys are buried. This was my second McARTHUR line that I only
learned of in the past few years---on my father's mother's side. Wouldn't
it be funny if one of these days I found a connection to his dad's
ancestors from Dunfermline, FIFE? Not likely, huh?

This was such an exciting experience. Years ago I tried so hard to find
some of
this information without luck---now it just appeared thanks to other people.

What I am particularly interested in at this time is any information as to the
ship they came on, exactly when (last half of 1700s is as close as I see).
Where exactly (or near) did they come from in Kintyre? Is the ship record of
their ship listed on the internet yet for us to see the names of others who
came
together? Does anyone know of siblings who stayed behind in Kintyre and might
have descendents still in the area?

I am indeed grateful to this cousin and to the others only a bit farther up
the
line for passing on the information that gave me a fresh start. Just in the
past couple of days I have had new information on the Day and Wilkinson
sides of my mother's family. Reckon I've been living right or something?
