This little story was contained in an article in The Fayetteville Observer,
July 11, 2000. It is called "Scots salute Gen. McNeill" by Harold Thrower,
and can be found on the Internet at

if you want to read the whole article.

Enjoy,
Cornelia

This story is worthy of repeating, I think: Many years ago in this Scots
country, a lady was teaching a Sunday school class (had to have been
Presbyterian). After several lessons she asked an old Scots lady to tell the
class who Jesus’ mother was. The old lady, using the best of Gaelic rolling
of R’s, said, “I don’t r-r-r-rrightly r-r-recollect her first name but I
think she was a M-a-c N-e-i-l-l.”
