Dear Debra,
I read your message with interest. Are you looking for information on Duncan
of Kilduskland specifically, or are you looking for information on the Argyll
Colony?
Are you descended from Duncan of Kilduskland? I am trying to find
confirmation of whether Duncan Campbell, b. abt.1728 in Scotland, d. Feb.
1832, in Moore County, N.C. could have been the son of Duncan of
Kilduskland.
Duncan Campbell married Christian Stewart in Sept. 1770 in St. Giles,
Edinburgh,
Scotland. Christian's father, deceased, had been a farmer in Fortingall.
Because Fortingall is in Perthshire, I wonder if that might be too far away
for the area of Kilduskland, for Duncan to have known this lady from
Perthshire. The dates and locations fit that Duncan could have been the
eldest son of Duncan of Kilduskland, and could have returned to America
between 1771-1777. I know that Kilduskland had a son named Duncan, but I
need the link that might connect Duncan of Kilduskland with the Duncan that
came to Moore County. Do you know anything about this? I would appreciate
any any information that you might have concerning this.
Thank you,
Cornelia Holmes

The following was found in the AOL Genealogy forum archives. I am extremely
interested in discovering more about this record source. Can anyone tell me
anything about the Sheriff Court Books? What time frame they are extant for
in Argyll? Are there any indexes published for them? Where are they
located? Why Inveraray? Is there a County Archive there or something? And
does anyone know if these records are available anywhere outside of
Scotland? On microfilm maybe? Any insight appreciated...
