Does anyone have the ancestry of the Rev. John R. McIntosh who founded
Flora McDonald College before the Civil War. The only four things I know
about him is he was born in North Carolina in 1815, it seems like Grace
Britt told me that he was a Presbyterian minister(will have to go back to my
notes on that one), his wife's name was Elizabeth Jewett and he died in
Georgia.
There was a great deal of confusion in my family over that. For some reason
my family thought that the founder of Flora McDonald College was our Rev.
John R. McIntosh. They were fully disappointed when I had to tell them that
he wasn't. Our Rev. John R. McIntosh was born in the Parish of Sleat, Isle
of Skye, Scotland on 14 Sept 1799 and came to America with his family in
1803, was an Itinerate Methodist-Episcopal Minister until he was
superannuated in 1849, he didn't marry until 1853 to Sarah Jane McIver,
daughter of Edward Evander McIver and Sarah Jane (McPherson). Clearly too
late to be the Founder of the college.
Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.
Kath
