Mary, I am Chuck McDowell, the Co-Administrator of the McDowell DNA Project
and what a
lot of people don't seem to understand about a lot of Scotsman is the fact
that once they were promised Land in Ireland after having confiscated all thier
Dowery's and Ancestral Lands to the British Crown, they of course went to
claim it...after a time the Irish (who by the way
makeup the Scottish People, along with Vikings and
Anglo/Germanic/Norman's,and Pict's)
were calling them by thier Gaelic Names and after a time these names were
easier to distinguish the Displaced Scots by so the Brits Changed thier names
into the names of the
Scotch-Irish we know today,to keep track of them for another round of Land
-Grab and out
and out Theft and deciet. As a result the Ancient name of MacDougall,in
Ireland was called MacDowal,McDowel,Doyle,McDoule,McDow,Dowell,Dow,and other
variants of the name,so when you look at your research please remember that when
you come to these "dead-ends",
that most all of those aforementioned Names are ALL MacDougall's. Being a
McDowell I had to learn all of the confusing and twisted elements of the Clan
MacDougall story, and I am still
learning it, but you have another tool available to you it's called DNA,and
being a MacDougall
you can do MTDNA to find associated Mother's lines, and any MacDougall Males
in your Family can test for the YDNA that determines the Father with an
accuracy of 99.9% probability. Therefore, I invite you to take a look at the
Project besides we only have 1 lonley
MacDougall and they are hard to find for testing and they are essential to
the results. Please contact me if you want to get an edge on your research.
Everyone else, you can check with familytreedna.com to see the many Scottish
DNA Projects that are available for you to help yourself to,and please do
so, because our's is a Complicated research and we can use all the help we can
get!
