Joanne,
Congratulations...you were the first to post a message to our newly
migrated list and (amazingly!) it was delivered.
There's only one Baldwin family in "Lumber River Scots and Their
Descendants" by Angus Wilton McLean, pub. 1942. It's in neighboring
Robeson County, I don't know if it's your line, but I thought I'd go
ahead and post it.
"Mattie Brown McLean, seventh child of John Allan and Mary Virginia
Brown McLean, was born 11/18/1888. On 4/24/1912, she was married to
John Gilbert Baldwin of Maxton, who died on 5/28/1930. On his
mother's side, Mr. Baldwin was a descendant of the Patterson family,
so long prominent in this section, one of his uncles being the Hon.
Gilbert B. Patterson, able lawyer and highly popular citizen who
represented Robeson County in the State Legislature and later was
elected to Congress from this district. To this union were born two
sons: John Gilbert Baldwin, II, born 6/6/1913, died 7/2/1914;
Gilbert Patterson Baldwin, born 6/6/1915. He graduated at the
Presbyterian Junior College, Maxton, NC, in 1934. Like his father, he
is apt in figures and bookkeeping and is a fine chirographer and bids
fair to be a successful business man."

I thought I would try sending a message on our new maillist to see if
it
goes thru well. I am working on the BALDWIN line.. starting with a
JOHN
BALDWIN b. ca. 1727, died aft. Nov. 1791, wife Amy BRYAN. Their
children
were Wm. Baldwin, b. abt. 1768, John Baldwin, Jr., Charles Baldwin b.
ca.

JOHN BALDWIN was a planter who lived in the Brown Marsh section of
Bladen
Co.,NC. He served in the Revolutionary War as a patriot, and received
grants for more than 500 acres in Bladen between 1755-1778. He
married Amy
BRYAN of Bladen Co. and they were listed in the 1790 census as living
alone,
with 27 slaves. His will was made on 5 November 1791 and registered
in
Book I , page 457, Bladen Co. Registry.

(His son)
WILLIAM BALDWIN continues our line.. born ca. 1768, died ca.
1801-1803.
Married a lady named Penelope who died in 1823. Their children were:
Charles Baldwin, Jr. (named junior after an uncle) , David and
William.

(His Son)
CHARLES BALDWIN, Jr. b. Mar 25, 1787 died Aug 6, 1848, married Amelia
KELLY

share information .
