Just to clarify, or perhaps confirm your suspicians, I have *zero*
evidence that directly links William CARDEN of Russell Co AL to James
CARDEN of Jasper/Meriwether Cos GA. What I have are two rather weak
links. The two links being that William and Randolph CARDEN of Russell
Co AL are brothers, and that Randolph is the son of James. Should one
of these suppositions be false then William is not the son of James.
Furthermore, if it turns out that Benjamin CARDEN of Russell Co is also
a brother, as per the heritage book, then it is unlikely that William is
son of James.

Whether or not a connection can be found at the other end is not clear.
So far I know nothing about the deaths of James or Elizabeth. I don't
think either one left a will. A quick look through an index of estate
papers for Meriwether Co did not turn up anything.

The 1860 census shows Matthew living with a "Martha." Is this
incorrect? It also shows a 1 year old daughter that could be "Martha",
but looks to me more like "Masintha".
