Hello John,
Great to hear from you. As far as I know (not much) I don't have any Scotish Carey's but I have a long way to go yet.
The first Carey I have in Australia is Thomas Davis (or David) Carey. Thomas was the son of Thomas Carey and Ellin Harvey.
Thomas Carey (the elder) was a pottery manufacturer in Staffordshire in partnership with his brother John Carey.
Thomas and John were the sons of John Carey and Sarah Walten (or Walters) john (the elder) was also a pottery manufacturer and passed the business on to his sons Thomas and John.
That is as far as I have been able to get so far.
1 John Carey b 1768 Staffordshire d Cork Ireland 1828 wife Sarah Walten (orWalters)
son of John
2 Thomas Carey b 1792 Staffordshire d Staffordshire 1844
son of Thomas
3 Thomas Davis Carey b 1822 Staffordshire d Victoria Australia 1894
Son of Thomas Davis
4 George Henry Carey b 1862 Australia d 1961 Australia
daughter of George Henry
5 Mary Pearl
I believe that the father of John (1) was Thomas Carey b c1740 do not know where.
Regards
Russell

I am intrigued by the end of your message. My Carey ancestors from
Ayrshire, several list themselves as potters and tile makers. According to
one of my Carey cousins in Scotland, there was a Carey firm who made china,
etc. This cousin also says he remembers hearing of a branch of the family
emigrating to Australia. The family seems to have dispersed in the
1870-1880s, with emigration to Canada at least continuing into the early
1900s.
My gg-grandfather James Carey was born in Glasgow in 1816. His parents were
William Carey and Marion Wiley. James married in Kiklmarnock around 1837.
By the 1840s, James and others of his family were living in the
Cumnock/Auchinleck area of Ayrshire working as miners. His male children
include James, Thomas, Hugh and William. Females include Jane and Marion.
Do your Careys have a Scottish connection? If so, does any of this ring a
bell?
