This eruption took place may 8 1902 and destroyed the town of St Pierre.

This cannot affect your searches of vital records.
But... In France we cannot access vital records during 100 years exept if
you are a descendant.

L'ruption de la Montagne Pele a eu lieu le 8 mai 1902. La ville de
Saint-Pierre a t entirement dtruite et tous ses habitants sont morts,
sauf un condamn.
Les registres existent mais ils ne sont pas consultables car vieux de
moins de 100 ans (loi Informatique et Libert). Seuls les descendants
directs peuvent demander une copie d'acte.
