Hello Everybody,
I'm feeling very guilty. I was largely instrumental in getting this
group set up, and now I have very little time to maintain it. As some
of you may know, I'm in the process of setting up my own company from
home and this is taking all of my time and most of my brain power.
Can I make a few suggestions to try and get this group humming again?
1. If you have ANY queries re the process of West Indian Research
please post them to the group. Also questions re family history and
the living conditions in previous centuries (for example queires re
dates of national events or hurricanes; questions re trading etc).
There are "experts" out there who may be able to help.
2. If you wish to reply to a query please post it as a follow-up
message to the group. Avoid private e-mail if at all possible. We
could all learn by your replies.
3. If you are unable to access the group but get the messages via the
digests, please feel free to respond by posting to me, and I will then
forward to the group.
4. If you feel you have ANY gems of wisdom (however small or seemingly
trivial) about West Indian Research, PLEASE post to the group.
In summary, this group is FOR us and BY us. If we cannot be bothered
to keep it active, it will die. Already it has been dropped by
Madeleine Mitchell's server.
I promise I will be better at responding myself.
By the way, the first "draft" of my book "My Jamaican Ancestry" is
completed and is ready for circulation. You have probably seen from
the Surname Interest List which names I have covered in the book, but
my major family lines are: SCARLETT, LAWRENCE, GROOM, GAYNER,
GALLIMORE, RAFFINGTON (from the North Side) and REID, MAGNUS and
CULLEN from the Kingston area.
Anybody got any ideas what I should do with it now?
Good luck with your research, and GET POSTING!
Sally
