This place was under French, Dutch and British control depending on who
was the victor in the various wars during those times. Originally called
Longchamps by the French, it was renamed Stabroek after the Dutch took
over. The British then took possession in 1796. Today the place is known
as Georgetown, located on the Demerara River in Guyana, where there is a
famous Stabroek Market.
