Subject: [CARIBBEAN-L] Late 19th.Century British-Colonial Uniforms

I'm hoping someone out there might point the way towards identifying the
late 19th.Century British Colonial uniform worn by Joseph Clanfergel
O'HALLORAN, who served in the Mauritius Police and or Colonial
Service/Civil Service, in Mauritius.

Are there any experts on Late-19th.and Early-20th. Century British Colonial
Uniforms out there ?

I may be wrong, but there doesn't seem to be much out there or the InterNet
about the history of British Colonial Uniforms.
A few URL's would provide a good start!

If only there was a way of showing everyone the photograph I have to work
with, that might solve the problem quicker.
Short of that, I'm willing to send a .jpeg picture-file as an attachment
to anyone who'd like to see this picture, who thinks they might help.

This photograph has been seen by 'the resident Military guru', at
P.R.O.,Kew,UK, who says it is definitely NOT a British Military uniform,
because 'the ornamented cuffs on the jacket-sleeve are all wrong'.

Might anyone help?
