In Burke’s Landed Gentry 1952) in a muddled note on the family of
“Fitzwilliam of Cilgwyn” (who had changed their name from the more plebeian
Hall) a Duncan Hamilton Hall is mentioned who was an “ISO” in Jamaica. My
question to the List is -what is an ISO?
This DH Hall last must have been a third cousin of my father though much
older and born in Jamaica sometime in the 1860s or 70s. (My father was born
1897.)
It is possible of course that Burkes have it wrong, there are other mistakes
in the entry. Can anyone suggest a possible transcription error?
