Hi Dorothy, I haven't forgotten you. I just had to wait for my contact to
respond. I am also posting this to the list in case anyone else is
interested.

Peter says:

Here is the address you requested
ArchevĂȘchĂ© de Port-au-Prince,
P.O.Box 538
Port-au-Prince, HAITI.

However, I have to say, I do not know to what extent they can help. Church
records of haitian era start only in 1866 and not for all parishes.
Many of these records are also in poor condition if not lost or destroyed.

end of Peter's message.

Actually this may help you, because you're looking for a ca. 1885 marriage.

He did not suggest how to go about this, but I would say you should write in
French, and include an IRC or 2 for a reply. I'd wait to send money until
you get a response. Many Catholic churches here will keep the money you
send as a "search fee", even if nothing is found, and the policy may be the
same in Haiti.

Your search reminds me of the young English couple that married at the
Catholic church in Warri, Nigeria while we were living there - she was a
school girl, he, a helicopter pilot. Boy will their descendents have a time
finding their marriage record!

Amicalement,

Augusta
