Speaking of Malcolm LITTLE, Mr. Malcolm X, or
El Hajj Malik Shabazz ...

He was born in Omaha, Nebraska.

His mother was from a West Indian background.

Was it Barbados? Or someplace else?

Thanks!

I was trying to find out where the leading West Indian operators in the
1920s Harlem numbers game were from. I have some information not as much
as I'd like on fellow islandsman Casper Holstein but beyond my knowing
that Stephanie St Clair was from Martinique I dont know where these
others were from. Yet another name big in the field was Max Romney who I
think was Tortolan. In matching surnames with directories on teldir.com
I see that there is an Ison hit on Grenada and a Brunder in St Kitts but
that's inconclusive. If Ison is Grenadan it brings up interesting
possibilities about Malcolm X's relations with "West Indian Archie" who
seems from the description in "Autobiography..." to
have been based on Ison. Someone posted a query for a Beunders in the
Dutch islands but I would need to get hold of an English - Dutch
dictionary to see if one or the other could be a phonetic
transliteration, maybe i's just a false cognate .
