"Dear Ed Crawford,
"I know in my case my mothers father was Adolph Gereau he was the
legitimate son of Mederic Gereau the illegitimate son of a black mother
and a white man named Giraud. I have been told that name variation for
the recognized illegitimate is a frequent practice in France."
That is very interesting Richard and makes sense of the pyschology. However
I know that there are Wallens in the West Indies who may not, are probably
not, descendants. I remember there was one chap sentenced to death in
Trinidad for some atrocious crime of other a year or two ago who died while
in prison. But there are Wallen landowners/slaveowners in Jamaica in the
Almanac after 1808 whom I cannot identify or link.
