By the way, if you have his Social Security number, or a better date of death
you can write to the Social Security Administration for his Form SS-5, which
is the application for a SS card. It will show where he said he was born,
which may differ from what his survivors put on the death certificate. The
Social Security "death index" is available online in searchable form, and may
help narrow it down, although I have read most people who died before the
database was computerized in 1962 are not in it.
