Sorry, but I don't really know. All I have been able to find out so far is
that William was in Barbados, possibly as a merchant and/or planter,
sometime prior to 1640. After 1640, he was settled in Isle of Wight,
Virginia and married to Isabel Hardy. Their descendents had moved to North
Carolina by 1736. I have seen our name spelled Mayow, Mayoh, Mays, and
Mayeaux so I guess it is possible that the Mayow you mentioned could have
been named for a Mayo relative.

Doug , have any of the Mayo family had connections with the deFreitas
families from Grenada? Reason I ask is that one of the sons had the middle
name Mayow,, and we have no clue where it came from? Lenora
