Hi All!
Anybody who was frustrated while trying to access the web site of the
St.Christopher Heritage Society, please note. They have a new site which
is much better and easier to use. Check it out and drop them a line to
join up. The web site is at
http://odin.prohosting.com/schs
Their December newsletter (sent to members - please join up!) refers to
books of interest to those researching St.Kitts. Has anyone read, used,
reviewed or bought any of these?
- West Indian Merchants and Planters in the mid 18th Century with
special reference to St. Kitts, by D.W.Thomas
- A History of Antigua by Brian Dyde (2000)
- St.Kitts: 100 Years of Medicine by Sir Cuthbert Sebastian (2001)
- A History of the Moravian Church, Eastern West Indian Province by G.
Oliver Maynard
Those tracking graves in St. Kitts: the Elder Hostel Volunteers
continued their cemetery inscriptions in St. Kitts in November 2001.
They did the Anglican Churchyards of St. Peter's and St. Mary's.
Unfortunately, as far as I know, the copy of the report they produce,
which includes grave photos and inscriptions, is only available for
consultation in the Documentation Center at the St. Christopher Heritage
Society Office in Basseterre, St.Kitts.
Those interested in Wingfield Estate can read a synopsis of finds from
the 2001 Archeological Site Survey done by Doctoral students from
Bristol University (among others) in the Newsletter reproduced on the
SCHS web site.
There is a very interesting photo essay on "Sugar Estates of st. Kitts"
by Dr. Grant H. Cornwell at
http://it.stlawu.edu/~stkitts/heritagehome.html
Happy Hunting,
Tian Uddenberg
