Jenny: the name Hardy is not a common one in Barbados. In fact there are
only 88 entries for that name in the IGI (the International Genealogical
Index). It does sound as if your Hardy family never really settled in
Barbados, even though they clearly had important business interests.
However I do have in my records a Thomas HARDY who marries an EVERSLEY
in 1835: her mother is a SPOONER & her grandmother an INCE, and on the
EVESLEY side she is a descendant of Nathan LUCAS. The SPOONERS are
related by marriage to many important families, ALLEYNE, BECKLES,
(Robert Bowcher) CLARKE, FARRE and so on, so this sounds like the group
of families you are researching.
To the best of my knowledge there are no census records for the 19th
century (only 1679 & 1715). The HARDY records area bit spotty: have you
any other names that would help me determine whether they are related to
Thomas? For example there is a Simeon Henry Hardy who marries in
Barbados in 1839: perhaps a brother of Thomas?
The data I have on the Eversley & related families is much too
voluminous to post here, but you can contact me directly for details.

I have been researching my family for some time now ... One of the
families was named Hardy and they were in the sugar trade in
Barbados.... The Hardy family definitely had ships and bases in Cork,
Liverpool and Dublin in the mid 19th century... The family owned ships
which were registered in London - the names were Simeon Hardy, Glanmire,
Liffey and Indian Queen. Are there any shipping records in the Barbados
archives?
I am also interested in the names Eversley, Bishop, Spooner, Ince and
Best - all connected with Barbados.
Thanks
Jenny Hardy
