Based on a 1924 ship's manifest, my grandfather, James Toolsie was born in
Lucea, Jamaica in 1873. A 1927 NYC death certificate says his parents came
from India. Having written unsuccessfully for a birth record, I think civil
registration began later in the 1870s. What other sources may have records
of his birth? With a first name like James, he probably went to a mission
school. What mission schools would have been active in Lucea in the 1870s,
1880s? Would any school records from that time be available?
