Michael,
Loisenhoj is a property on top of a hill at the beginning of Skyline
Drive. Loiusenhoj has a wonderful view down to Magens Bay and 'down
island' on one side and a view down to the harbor and town of Charlotte
Amalie on the other. I believe Louisenhoj is part of Estate
Zufriedenheit which stretches down to Magen's Bay. Part of the old
great house was used as the foundation of the present building that we
know as Louisenhoj castle.
This property (way back when) belonged to the Magens family. Later,
Hans Haagensen owned the property in the mid 1860's and his heirs had
it to the 1910's. A few weeks ago I posted to the list about a book
entitled 'Hans Haagensen House on St. Thomas'; this book probably has
more info that you may find interesting. Carl V. LaBeet, a prominent
St. Thomian merchant, owned Loiusenhoj in the mid 1910's and later sold
to Arthur Fairchild who created the arboretum in back of Magen's Bay
and donated that and I believe, Drake's Seat to the V.I. Government for
the use of the public. That's what I can tell you about Loiusenhoj and
the estate off the top of my head.
By the way, there are some plaques dedicated to different Walloe family
members on the walls in the interior of Frederick Lutheran Church in
Charlotte Amalie.
Enjoy your trip!!
Dante
