I heard this on the radio today as well. Well they can probably prove
Afro-Caribbean DNA (as oppposed to just African) by the combination of
Europena and African ancestry.

30% of Afro-caribbean males have a European Y chromosone (male line) so the
presence of that with an African MtDNA profile (female line) would imply a
West Indian ancestry.

Here's an interesting story from the BBC:

"DNA clue in sex attacker manhunt

Ground-breaking DNA techniques have traced the geographical roots of the
serial sex attacker at the centre of London's biggest manhunt.

Scientists used DNA samples found at some crime scenes in south London to
prove his family is from the Caribbean.

They will be compared with swabs from up to 200 police officers with
Caribbean origins to try to trace the island the man or his family was
from."

The full text can be found at:

I'm surprised the DNA profile "proved" a West Indian origin. I would've
expected it to go further back than that and identify the relevant part of
Africa, assuming of course that we're talking about Afro-Caribbean
ancestry in this case.

Kevin.
