I've been following this List with great interest for some time, but only
made one, minor contribution, until I've a fair idea of its nature and
particular ethos.

I also agree with John, but would also add that we should welcome and
respect the List Administrator's right to intervene regarding persistent
exchanges initiated by off-topic or offensive messages. I personally would
like to see an end to e-mails with the above subject line.

My wife - a Penn of East End, Tortola - has made many new contacts following
her appointment as the BVI's Chief Records Management Officer and
Co-ordinator of the Archives Project, but we have not wanted to waste the
List's time with information which is already common knowledge to members.
For example, we have only just found out about the Caribbean Genealogy
Library on St Thomas from the Librarian of the St Croix Landmarks Society.

As a veteran of other Lists, I have been surprised to see how few of the
e-mails to this one include a reference to the one to which they are
replying. That is normal etiquette elsewhere and makes for much easier
understanding of where a particular writer is coming from.
