Hi Dianne,
How old was he on the 1851 census? If you are looking around 1810 then
presumably he was abt 41??
if you know his marriage then possibly you have his marriage
certificate? if so what was his father's name? Was it John?
If you don't have the certificate then that should be your next move.
I have the 1841 cenus index for Fishguard area - there isn't an obvious
one the only James age 30 is a labourer but that doesn't necessarily
rule hime out.
There is a James davies occupation cooper aged 70 in Fishguard - could
be a possible family member.
If you give me more details then I will try to help. But get the
marriage certificate.
It is possible he was not in the Fishguard area in 1841. Where was he in
1851? and how are you certain it was the correct James Davies as it was
before his marriage and presumably not living with his family or you
wouldn't be searching.
Tell me all you know and I will keep a look out for anything useful.
Cheers
Pat
