Between 1847 and probably 1858, my Gt. GT. grandfather Evan Evans lived in Furnace in Llanelly Parish with his first wife Jane and three children. Evan was the miller at the "Lower Mill" which is listed at the home of the family on the baptism records.
This is the family which later moved to the Achddu Mill sometime before 2 April 1871. We have no data on where they were in 1861 but fifth child born in 1864, was born in Kidwelly Parish.
The "LOWER MILL" was one of three water wheel powered grist mills on the same river (unnamed on the 1891 web maps) which flows past the castle ruins. The two others mills were cleverly named the "UPPER" and the "MIDDLE" mills.
Several listers were very helpful in providing data on the Achddu Mill, including splendid photos and an article by Richard .
Do any of you happen to have any info on these three mills, in particular the"Lower Mill"? And would someone try to find them in Kidwelly census for 1861? We'd be much obliged
Corrected to 1861 they are:
Evan Evans head 33 b. Abernant miller
Jane Evans wife 34 b. Llanelly
OR
Mary Evans wife 39 b. Llanelly
John son 10 b. Llanelly
Jane dau 14 b. Llanelly
Mary Ann dau 13 b. Llanelly
Catherine dau 3 b. Llanelly
Thomas son 1 b. Kidwelly
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Jos. Gregory
