Hi Pauline
Llangennech does seem to have been a lot busier a hundred years ago
I had the pleasure of a brief visit recently on the way back from Llanelli -
I went to see my Grandfather's grave in Bethesda Chapel. My G.Grandfather's
grave (David Evans) is also there but alas the headstone has collapsed and
despite my best efforts is still flat on the floor. I did manage to read
some of the inscription by lying down on the grass (which was typically wet
due to our wonderful weather!!!). Llangennech was my father's home whereas
my mother's side (Beynons & Lloyds) all come from Pembrey, Kidwelly, and
Carmarthen. I still have some relatives in Pembrey although I do not think
there are any more links with Llangennech!
I am a keen Scarlets fan and my 10 year old son is slowly following in my
footsteps! I have not yet had the time to take him to Stradey (where I saw
many games as a child) although he did see Llanelli win both their semifinal
and the final in last years cup! Lets hope we can find time to visit
Llanelli for the rugby and for some more delving into family history.
I am hoping that a day off in November might just allow me to visit the
records office in Carmarthen for the first time where I am sure I will be
able discover so much more about my family.
If I come across any other directories I will let you know.
Speak again soon
Philip
