Hi Marilyn
I have printed your query out - I look if I can at marriage entries for
members when I have chance - CRO is reopening on Monday, see what I can find
for you, although these parish registers are on microfilm which takes longer
to locate.
The age of 74 is consistent with the 1851 census return - so he must have
died in 1866.......
With marriages pre 1837 - the only information given is names of both bride
and groom - if bachelor, widower, spinster, widow, if by consent of parents
(if under 21), parish if different from marriage parish, name of
vicar/curate, signature or mark of bride and groom and signatures or mark of
witnesses.........nothing else is given, unless the vicar had some remark to
make of the wedding.
If the marriage states on the CD that he was a wid - it does mean that he
was a widower.........I'll see what I can find for you - I can tell you that
the Conwil Elved registers leave a lot to be desired for the early years -
lots and lots of entries are missing - a new vicar to the parish wrote in
length about the neglect and mis-use of these registers which he thought was
appalling......
speak soon Pauline
