Perhaps Carmarthenshire listers will forgive me for posing questions more
of a general Welsh nature than specifical to genealogy of Carmarthenshire.
1. Is there a List that addresses Welsh matters, overall, including history?
2. I have become interested in Deheubarth, and ancient Welsh kingdom, with
its center at Dynefwr Castle near Llandeilo. Although I've been to
Llandeilo, now 3 times, (sorry I missed the Eisteddfod!) I've never taken
the time to visit the ruins. Is there a good history specific to
Deheubarth and the genealogies and successions of the kings and princes
who occupied it. Of course I know about Hywel Dda and his eminent
grandfather Rhodri Mawr.
3. Is there a good ancestral pedigree known for Rhydderch ap Iestyn of
Dynefwr? Anything known Rhydderch's mother? or Iestyn's ancestry?
4. Can anyone suggest where I might get a font that permits the Welsh
circumflex W? so I can render Glend^wr and other Welsh names correctly? I
cannot find the circumflex W in any other language font.
5. Finally, my Welsh grandfather, another Thomas Roderick, once told me an
old perhaps Welsh story, which I think his grandfather from Wales had told
him, about the mosquitoes being so large and fierce, that someone hid under
a huge thick iron kettle; the mosquitoes punctured the kettle and from
within he hammered their "beaks' over inside, so the mosquitoes were
caught, only to have the whole swarm of mosquitoes fly off with the kettle.
Is that a Welsh folk story, or am I dreaming?
Many thanks for your help
