Hi Pauline & List
Carmarthen Archives looked up the 1851 census which gives William born in
Carmarthen (I didn't know it was St Peter's) and Maria born in Meidrim
(Mydrim in the return). Their ages were recorded as 48 and 44 years in the
census. The children listed match with those born and "registered" at
Penuel Baptist Chapel, Carmarthen including my G-Grandmother Harriet born in
May 1837. David Cooke wrote that this was a birth not a baptism. He
concluded that the Brechfa marriage was the only one which fitted my GG
grandparents. At the marriage William is listed as a Painter. I am
confident that Maria was a Morris prior to marriage since apart from David
Cooke's conclusion one of her grandchildren was christened William Thomas
Morris Malyn (1865 Penarth).
>From later births in Abergwili they must have moved to Abergwili around the
early 1840's and sometime afterwards William becomes an innkeeper in the
village. I don't have the 1861, but the DFHS fiche for BMD fits Maria's
age.
As you say William may have died after 1875, previously you were right on
this for my other GG grandfather Henry Malyn who died shortly after that
date, also in Abergwili.
I don't know whether Maria's family had moved to Brechfa or whether she as
there alone, perhaps working there. David Cooke wrote that the marriage was
witnessed by two persons who were not obvious relatives.
It would be good if you can find the parents of William and Maria and look
forward to any info you may find.
Thanks & regards
Thomas
