Hi, Pauline,

Jane Bowen - her birth date of Oct. 9, 1788 was given to me by a long lost
relation that I discovered while researching these people. I found the
baptism date of Oct. 8, 1788 in the Bishop's Transcripts for St. Peter's at
the National Library while we were there in August. It seemed likely that
these two sources referred to the same Jane.

The baptism transcript said "October 8, 1788, Jane Bowen, daughter of Jane."
That's why I thought she might be illegitimate. I also looked in the BT for
a male Bowen death within the year or so preceding the birth - trying to
check on whether Jane the mother had been a widow - but found nothing
appropriate.

I found Jane Bowen Morgan (the younger) living at ~50 in GLAM in the 1841
census in the same household as Lewis Bowen, age 45. My guess was that Lewis
may have been her brother. I've since found that Lewis was born in Merthyr
Tydfil (June 16, 1793) to John and Cheriton Bowen, so I'm not sure that Jane
and Lewis are siblings. I wondered if there were any records at St. Peter's
regarding transactions of John and Cheriton Bowen? That would tell me if
they lived in that area earlier.

Hope that helps. Thanks for asking....

Best wishes,
Darla
