Hi Mark
There has been a big debate of late on indexes etc., and sorry but we are
unable to give information from other Societies indexes without their
permission.
You could contact Glamorganfhs (not the Glam listers pages) yourself for
the entries from Aberdare - there are entries for these two people in St
Johns Aberdare - I think that they will only give information to their
members....you could give it a try if you so wish.
regards Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Thank you very much for the info. on the James-Evans'. This certainly
looks more promising. Could I ask one more favour, Henry James , son of the
above, married a Mary Jones and had two children, Jane (1850) and David
(1854) apparently in Aberdare Glamorganshire before heading off overseas to
Australia. Would you have any info. to confirm this ?
Thanks again for your great help.
Regards,
Mark Williams

Hi Mark
I have looked at the marriage index (Carmsfhs) 1754-1837 and there is NOT
one marriage between a David James and Mary Davies/is/id
I also looked at the marriages from Pembs Cards and Carms 1813-37 - not one
took place here either......
I found the following .....
1827 12th Feb Llanfihangel ar arth parish church
David James and Mary Evans
this was the only one - the other taking place in Llanboidy......
If you want to see where these parishes are, go to Carmsfhs web pages on:
http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk
you can download and enlarge this onto your own computer.....
hope this helps
Pauline

Subject: [Cmn-L] James' of Newcastle Emlyn
Hi List,
A while ago I posted my great great gmother's details without success.
Margaret James, b. 1832 Newcastle Emlyn to David James and Mary Davis. She
migrated here to Australia in mid to late 1850s.
This week I was sent the death cert. of her brother Henry James (b. Jan. 20
1827 in same area and also migrated in 1850s) and it lists his parents as
David James and Mary Evans.
Margaret's wedding cert. says clearly mother is ''Davis'', Henry's death
cert. clearly says Ëvans". Descendants of these James' are convinced that
IGI data they have suggests Évans'.
Can anyone tell me any hows or whys of this or whether it was common for the
Welsh at this time to change their names?.... as I am pretty sure they refer
to the same person.
I would appreciate any help to see if these people can be found in birth
records or census info.
I believe there could also have been another brother, Samuel, who may not
have migrated.
Thanks in anticipation,
Mark
