Hello Richard and List,
What an interesting article by Richard.
Just thought I would add a little South Wales Family History to go with it.
The following information is taken from a little book called A Spy For
Wellington Written by a friend of mine and fellow member of the Kenfig
Historical Society whose name is Barrie Griffiths.
Perhaps some of you remember watching the TV series `SHARP `.
Always at Wellington`s side was an intelligence officer always in civilian
clothing, it was they who despatched the hero on yet another dangerous sortie
behind enemy lines, where sometimes the intelligence officer above would turn
up at odd and unexpected times.
Well in true life this man was Sir John William Waters.
Born John William Waters at Cefn Cribwr, near Kenfig Hill.
When travelling towards Cardiff from Pyle on old A48 going up Stormy Hill
look to your left and it was on the ridge there in 1774 that he was born one
of nine children of Morgan and Grace Waters of Ty Fry.
Best Regards Allen in Aberavon
